Since its introduction in 1916, Maria by Rosenthal has become one of the brand’s most iconic and successful porcelain collections. A timeless choice for weddings, celebrations and special occasions, it combines classic elegance with romantic detailing, most notably the delicate pomegranate relief that gives the collection its distinctive character. The inspiration for Maria dates back to around 1815, when a silver tea service acquired by company founder Philipp Rosenthal Sr. during a trip to England provided the model for its design. The collection was named after his wife, Maria. Its signature features include a multifaceted base, finely curved pomegranate relief and angular handles. The interplay of light and shadow across its framed surfaces creates a look that is both distinctive and refined, drawing inspiration from the Biedermeier period. By the 1920s and 1930s, Maria had already developed into an extensive tableware collection comprising around 170 different pieces. Today, it remains Rosenthal’s most comprehensive tableware range. In 2014, designer Regula Stüdli introduced a romantic floral interpretation of the classic collection, adding a contemporary touch that complements the original design beautifully. For more than 140 years, Rosenthal has combined exceptional craftsmanship with innovative design to create fine porcelain renowned for its quality, functionality and enduring elegance. The Maria collection reflects this heritage, bringing timeless sophistication to both everyday dining and special occasions.
